Scholarship Purpose, Eligitbility Criteria and Preferences & Submission Information
Purpose:
The Bethel Registered Nurse Education Scholarship was created in 2025 by John H. Fournelle in honor of the lives of his parents, who lived in Alaska. His mother was a registered nurse and his father was a bacteriologist who studied enteric diseases in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta.
This scholarship is intended to make awards to students in the Kuskokwim Campus-based cohort of the UAA Associate of Applied Science in Nursing program.
Award: $1000 will be awarded to one student for the Fall 2025 semester. The award may be used for tuition OR other education-related expenses. The award will be paid to the University of Alaska Anchorage.
Past scholarship recipients are eligible to apply again for the scholarship. See info below about applicant eligibility requirements and scholarship scoring preferences.
Eligibility Requirements:
a) Applicant must submit all required documentation listed on the checklist (located at end of application).
b) Applicant must be an enrolled student in the UAF-Kuskokwim Campus-based cohort of the UAA Associate of Applied Science in Nursing program.
c) Applicant must submit all college transcripts.
d) Applicant must have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 to qualify.
e) Applicant must submit a personal statement (see below).
Eligibility Preferences:
a) Students who are from the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta region or have cultural, familial or other connections to the region.[1] [2] Students without these connections are still welcome to apply.
b) Students who intend to work in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta.
c) Students who demonstrate financial need.
d) Students who maintain a GPA of 3.0 and higher.

Applications may be received by online submission, fax, mail, email, or drop-off by Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at 5 pm.

Drop-off: Applications may be dropped off by May 28 at 5 pm at the BCSF office, located at 1795 Chief Eddie Hoffman Highway in Bethel. There is a drop box on the porch if the office is closed or unoccupied.
